What kind of music do I listen to?

Well, I know you’re all asking “what kind of music do you like”? well ill tell you. Growing up I was a huge Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey fan! the first CD I ever bought when I got my first CD player was the Bodyguard Soundtrack and Music Box. You know if you grew up in the 90’s “I Will Always Love You” was your jam!!! and Mariah was queen backing the day, (you know before she went a little crazy), Lets fast forward to the year 1995 when a little movie called “Dangerous Minds” was released which introduced us to Gangstas Paradise, which yes I can still recite every word! that song and movie I felt broke barriers and shined a light on the education system and the way kids are raised in certain areas, barriers that I feel hadn’t been seen since Lean On Me. Fast forward a year and were in 1996, I was 11 and discovered the Fugees and Lauryn Hills amazing voice, The Score album was one of the best in the day and answered the question I know all of us had what happened to that really talented girl from sister act 2?, and introduced us to Wycliff Jean and Pras. Tupac and Biggie  (RIP) were a huge influence in my life as well, with a hint of Selena thrown in there (RIP). 1999 came and we were introduced to THE QUEEN Miss. Britney Spears and she brought along a whole new genre of pop music and boy bands that to this day we all still know and love, whether you were Team BSB or Team Nsync, or dare I say, Hanson, we all had our favorite and we all probably had a crush on at least one member of these bands. Throughout the 90’s boy bands and pop artists exploded and life was full of bubble gum and rainbows. Then just like I did these stars grew up, boy bands broke up, yet gave us the magical gift of Justin Timberlake as a solo artist. Don’t get me wrong I love me some old school 80’s music as well, hello Pat Benatar anyone? Prince? MJ? yes please!!!!! Music shaped my childhood and music shapes our world. these days I am in my 30’s and listen to country music, a far cry from the gangsta rap of my double digit years, but I love it, old school classic country and new school “Bro Country” its just real music, the words just hit your soul, no don’t get me wrong Luke Bryan’s breakout hit “Country Girl (Shake it for me)” doesn’t exactly make me ponder life, but then there are such songs sung by Little Big Town to name a few Better Man, Girl crush, Your side of the bed that hit your soul. Talented songwriters like Taylor swift (I’m still more of a pre pop T-Swizzle) who can make you feel all the feels, Chris Stapleton, who for years wrote hits for everyone else decided to grace us with his talents and we haven’t stopped listening. Eric Church who some call the “bad boy of country” can make you cry with his hits. Some of my current influences are Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, and Ashley Monroe, Brad Paisley, Charles Kelley, Sugarland, Charles Esten, and of course no list would be complete without Mr. Johnny Cash, these are just a few, Im working on a post about my current playlists and recommendations that I will have out in a few days. since moving to Nashville I have had the opportunity to meet some of these incredibly talented artists and they are just some of the friendliest people you can ever meet. I hope this gives you a better understanding of the music I listen to and how my taste has evolved. Im always open to suggestions for new stuff to listen to, so leave me a comment or send me an email and Ill let you know what I think!! Until next time!
